2009-10 Scientific Study at Gap Creek

GCTA has been awarded funds from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to commission a scientific study of soil movement on an IMBA-inspired trail at Gap Creek.  Mountain bike counters designed by TRAFx will be used. Many thanks to GCBF and TRAFx for their financial assistance. www.trafx.net

2009 RESULTS of the survey have been uploaded at:

http://www.gcta.asn.au/documents/2009BCCMTBsurveyresults28April.pdf

The only question remaining now is whether BCC will continue to ignore the obvious demand for MTB access to other bushland reserves in Brisbane. BCC. the only Council in the world that prohibits cycling on fire roads maintained for vehicle traffic.

BCC SURVEY ABOUT MOUNTAIN BIKING IN COUNCIL BUSHLAND  6 February - 24 April 2009

Provide feedback on how Council can best manage outdoor recreation (including mountain bike riding) within Council's bushland reserves.

News September 2008

Wonderful support has been forthcoming from the Slush Fund financed by Ground Effect, NZ.  All we had to do was describe the dedicated work of volunteers on the Gap Creek Curcuit and the trail work completed by Roadie Rob, and Ground Effect contributed $1000 to GCTA for trail expenses!  Thank-you!  See www.groundeffect.co.nz

News August 2008

The re-route of 'Pony Express' is complete!  At the GCTA AGM it was decided to spend the funds accumulated from the sale of Where to MTB in SEQ to contract Australian Bush Trails to finish the trail with the aid of a mini excavator.  All good! as Roadie Rob says.  We now have a great circuit - Gap Creek Circuit - on the western side of Gap Creek Road.

Many thanks go to all the volunteers:

Michael Baker and his staff install the bridge. All contributions were donated - labour and materials.

Kenmore Cycle Club demonstrate they can create great trail and ride it!

News May 2008

Minister Judy Spence awarded Gillian Duncan with an inaugural gold medal in recognition of the contribution of volunteers to sport and active recreation.  Nine other recipients received their awards at Parliament House this week. John Travers (Kenmore), Gavin Finlay (D'Aguilar) and Helen Walker (RATS) were also at the ceremony.

Gillian's award was accepted on behalf of the real heroes - GCTA trail care volunteers - three cheers!

News in April 2008

Pony Express reroute is a project that many new trail carers are supporting. The most amazing development is the high quality and quantity of construction at each session. Why is this? Are people learning about trail design by 'just riding' the IMBA standard trails at Gap Creek? Maybe IMBA principles are better understood. Maybe riders are doing their own research, reading website information. Maybe trail care sessions are teaching sessions too.

Come to trail care and gain another qualification! Professional trail builder!
